Hello. I am one of the Japanese game fans.

I am going to write about my dissatisfaction with the game.

Some may be offended, and some may criticize me saying, "You're just crazy! ” but I am writing this article to let the gaming industry know a little bit about my thoughts and feelings.

A few years ago I purchased my first  stationary console PlayStation, a PS4.

The main reason I bought it was because I wanted to play Monster Hunter W: IB.

Another thing I was hoping for was to play foreign games with tremendously realistic graphics, which are rare on the Nintendo Switch.

I will try to spell out my dissatisfaction with foreign game software that I thought through it.

Complaints about camera distance in foreign games.

I bought a PS4, and at first I bought Monster Hunter World and played it thinking, "The graphics are amazing!".

I had been playing Monster Hunter XX on the 3DS until then, so I was really impressed by the quality of the graphics.

But at the same time, I was also thinking, "Hey, Isn't the camera a little too close?” I felt a little uncomfortable compare with the 3DS Monster Hunter.

At one point, there was an item where the camera distance could be set, but it was set to the furthest distance and it was finally about the same as MH XX.

But at the time, I didn't care, thinking "well, they must want to show off the main character's equipment ((^-^;)" or something like that. " I had no idea that this was still a benign camera distance....

If the camera is this far away from the player character, it is conscientious.

Time flies, and now that I've finished the story of Monster Hunter, I thought I'd play a Western game I'd been curious about, so I played a free-to-play software "Days Gone" on PS4.

When the first movie ended and I was able to control the game, I was surprised to see that the main character was very close to the camera.

Moreover, When the player dashes, the camera moves closer to the player and there is an additional shaking effect. I strongly felt 3D sickness from this performance.

Even the original camera distance is enough to make me feel 3D sickness.

For me, this game has become a game which dashing is prohibited.

In the end, I couldn't continue the game because it was too uncomfortable even if I sealed off the dash button, and I gave up on the game.

This camera distance was not good for me.... (DAYS GONE)

It is a powerful cinematic presentation that shows the commitment of the producers, but it is not  friendly to those with a weak semicircular canal.... I felt sick just walking around....

The only time I felt less sick was when I was on the bike, because the camera was moving away from me, but I was still on foot for a long time, so it was inevitable that I would get 3D sickness.

There are many other similar games with an over-shoulder viewpoint, including God of War and The Last of Us, among other major PS4 software titles.

I think that the power of this type of viewpoint game is its selling point, but the closer the camera is, the more often you have to move the viewpoint, so if there was an option to set the camera farther away for people like me who are vulnerable to 3D sickness, I think more people would buy the game... I feel a little disappointed.

I have never done any game production, but is it a time-consuming task to be able to change the viewpoint? If not, I would like to see many games add the ability to set the camera farther away....

I am sure that unlike the case of field of view, setting the camera farther away is not a performance burden since the area to be rendered remains the same.

Specifically, if the camera is as far away from the character as it is in Fortnite, I am less likely to feel 3D sickness.

If the camera is as far away as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it would be perfect.

Of course, this is unavoidable in games such as PvP games, where the position of the viewpoint can affect the advantage or disadvantage, but I am writing this article in the hope that more and more games that can be played offline will allow the camera position to be changed to make it less 3D sickness.

It is still sad to not be able to play great pieces of games just because it gets me  feel 3D sickness.

Another common type of game is the first-person viewpoint games.

I think there are too many of these to count, but again, these were games that only a select few could play.

I was very sad, but I couldn't play, I felt sick...

As I mentioned earlier, I think it is unavoidable when advantage or disadvantage is involved, such as in PvP games, but I wanted to see consideration for games that are played comfortably by one person.

I understand that it is unavoidable in online games, where the advantage or disadvantage is related to the distance of the viewpoint.

In foreign games, there is no reset button that moves the camera to the back of the character.

Also, this may be a minor point, but foreign games usually does not allow us to reset the viewpoint.

Most Japanese games have a button that instantly returns the camera to behind the character, but many Western games do not, and the only way to move the viewpoint is with the right stick.

It may be a small thing, but there are many situations where just using the reset button for the viewpoint makes moving the viewpoint rather easy.

Conclusion.

Perhaps people like me who want to play games despite being easily feel 3D sickness are in the very small minority to begin with.

However, as a game fan, I strongly hope that someday there will be a better understanding of people who get feel 3D sickness easily, and that more games will be available with settings that make it difficult to get feel 3D sickness.

It may be slight, but it is expected to attract new players.

If you have any thoughts, I would be glad to hear your comments.

Thank you for reading.
